SSN Travel Fellowships 2011 - General rules

The committee of the SSN decides on a yearly basis about the number of awards to be offered and the amount awarded. This information will be posted on the SSN website and announced in the SSN Newsletter, at least one month before the deadline for abstract submission.

General rules (adopted by the Council of the SSN on September 2010):

Although SSN has increased the number of fellowships over the last years, only a fraction of the applications can be funded. Furthermore, due to the limited number of deadlines, applications for scientific meetings other than FENS Forum and SFN could often not be evaluated before the meeting took place. The SSN Council has therefore decided to modify the evaluation procedure as follows:

1.

The SSN offers travel fellowships for its student-members and junior postdoc members (up to 5 years of post-doc training) to attend all neuroscience meetings, but the FENS Forum and the SFN Annual Meeting are still favored. Not more than one person per research group and meeting will be funded, and any person will only receive one fellowship during her/his PhD, and one fellowship as a postdoctoral fellow. They have paid their annual membership fee.

2.  The committee of the SSN decides on a yearly basis about the number of awards to be offered and the amount awarded.
3.  To apply for a fellowship, student-members and postdocs should submit
  • a copy of their abstract
  • a letter of motivation,
  • a note of support signed by their supervisor
  • a curriculum vitae
4.  They have to be the first author on the abstract. Non-members can apply for membership at the same time and need to include a proof of payment of the annual fees.
5.  The selection of abstracts to be awarded will be made by members of the SSN committee. It will be based on scientific excellence, quality of the applicant (track record, letter of intent), and likely benefit of the meeting for the applicant and her/his research group
6.  All applicants will be informed by e-mail.
7.  Applicants receiving a travel fellowship on a competitive basis from another source are requested to retract their application to the SSN.
